Malaria Initiative Overview
A Non-Profit Corporation

Malaria Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to the medical and spiritual welfare of people through the treatment and eradication of malaria.
The initial group was founded in 2007 by John Peterson, Susan Busse M.D., and Thomas Hesselink M.D. in order to pursue a new, inexpensive, and effective treatment of malaria. Dr. Busse is a graduate of Rush Medical School.  Dr. Busse went into private practice in Illinois. After a number of years, Dr. Busse was called to go into medical missions at which time she closed her very successful practice to continue her service to Jesus Christ around the world. Dr. Hesselink graduated Northwestern University and University of Illinois Medical School.  Dr. Hesselink started in private practice and continues to do so to this day.   John Peterson graduated Western Illinois University. Mr. Peterson went to work heading a chemical reclamation plant for 13 years. He started an environmental company that pioneered the use of microbes that eat oil and gasoline. He was the first to succeed doing this commercially and helped write the EPA guide lines for others following him. He also worked on developing  new technologies in DNA sequencing and bacterial sensitivity to antibiotics resulting in several new medical patents.
Malaria Initiative is currently involved with trials, in Africa, of an acidified sodium chlorite solution which is taken orally. Initial results have proven to be very effective both clinically and in the laboratory in studies done in Uganda, Sierra Leone, and now Ethiopia. The costs for this treatment is less than one penny $0.01(US) per dose. The raw material for mixing the treatment can be put into a back pack and transported easily. Less than $100.00 (US) is enough to treat 20,000 people.

We now are helping to support a PhD. candidate doing a thesis on this treatment and we will continue to help support these types of research initiatives by creating opportunities in this area.

Along with support for publishing in scientific and medical journals, we are providing training for personnel to provide follow-up information. This information consists of follow-up visits to one of our designated “sentry” clinics along with blood draws to monitor any change in plasmodium infection.
Future medical trips are now being planned to continue our investigation into this new and exciting treatment. Contributions go towards the continuation of our research and not administration fees. All treatment materials are provided by us free of charge .
